I recently spoke at a women's conference and the title of my presentation was "D.A.R.E. to DREAM". You see, I speak with women every day and there is one common denominator that I am seeing – they don't have a DREAM for their life, let alone their business. This breaks my heart. They have a "business" and I use that term lightly because if you are in business you need to be making money and you need to have specific goals and a plan of action in front of you if you ever want to create success in your business. If you were given an opportunity to have your own business from home then that in itself started with a dream. But what happens is when the going gets tough, women abort their dreams, they give up and they settle for life as it is rather than going after what they truly want. You can have all the passion in the world, but if you don't have money it is really hard to keep yourself committed to building your business in a way that will support your dreams and your life. Statistics show that only one out of every five businesses will survive until their third year – don't let this be you. Here is a simple formula that you can use every day to D.A.R.E. to DREAM and create that life you imagined: DECIDE – Decide that you are worth it, decide that if you can dream it, you can achieve it, but it takes work! Fall in love with your dream, have it in front of you every day and ask yourself "What am I doing TODAY to get me one step closer to my dream?" Be very specific about your dream; paint the exact picture of what you want your life to look like. ACT AS IF – Start acting like the person you want to become. If you want to become a successful leader in your industry, start acting like it. Start hanging around with women who are leaders, women who inspire you. Women who are already DOING what it is you want to do. Find someone who has achieved success and become accountable to him or her on a regular basis. RECOGNIZE – Recognize that the person you are today can change. Make the decision that you will no longer accept mediocrity and that you deserve success. Recognize that what you have done in the past does not serve you and commit to changing, that includes the people you have surrounded yourself with, you need to surround yourself with a mentor and peers who will support, encourage and push you to do what it takes, and not buy into your excuses. EXECUTE – You will never move forward until you have a plan for success in front of you and someone holding you accountable to doing the work that is necessary for you to move towards your dream. If you could do it on your own, you would have already done it. Everything you want is on the other side of your fears. You will never grow until you jump so just do it! THOUGHT FOR SHARING Don't give up on those dreams, I challenge you to dream a little bigger, take some time for yourself to sit down and really dream. You started that business for a reason, to be able to stay at home with your children, to leave a job that you hated, to help contribute to your family income, to renovate your home, to take your children on that family vacation…. Whatever the reason – don't give up! My challenge for you - D.A.R.E. to DREAM! I believe in YOU – and yes, you can have it all!
