The Washington administrations/operations committee recommendedapproval of a change order at the Washington Fire Training Center. Ron Unnerstall with Washington Engineering & Architecture,P.C., highlighted the change order, in the amount of $6,100.16,Monday. One change is to the fire alarm system, which will add fire alarmstrobe lights in the restrooms and a fire alarm exterior waterproofstrobe light, as well as a switch on the post indicating valve,which monitors the position of the shutoff valve to the sprinklersystem. Strobe lights in the restrooms is a code requirement that wasoverlooked and caught in review, Unnerstall said. The exterior strobe light is not code requirement, but soon willbe.
The fire department thought it would be best to bring thatbuilding up to that code standard, he told the committee. Monitoring of the post indicator valve would be to ensure that itis in the correct position and has not been tampered with. Those changes account for $2,263.14. Adding Conduit The second component of the change order is for the installation ofunderground conduit required by Ameren to provide three-phase powerto the site.
The order includes modifications to the existingunderground conduit for the streetlights installed by Ameren forthe city and allows for relocations of building service. The total for that change order is $8,634.02. Delete Requirement The final change is to delete the requirement for a remoteannunciator panel for the emergency generator to be located at thePublic Safety Building at Fourth and Jefferson streets. The fire department, in order to try to meet the futurerequirements of ISO is looking to monitor the generators,specifically the generators for transmitting signals, Unnerstallsaid. However, the system can not be used through the entire city tomonitor all generators because they have different manufacturers.
