Callaway has a strange habit of being the leader in innovation year after year, especially when it comes to driver technology and design and the new Callaway's best price RAZR Hawk driver fits the bill. I was blown away by this driver the moment I picked it up. Callaway didn't stop there though, the overall design is enhanced with a spin-cast nickel, rear-weight pad, and a thin aluminum skid plate on the sole. To assist on those dreadful but inevitable, off center hits, a chemically milled titanium cupface was added. This sealed the deal on the new RAZR Hawk! The head – being 450 CC, seems a lot smaller than it actually is – and looks great at address. Again I may be biased, due to my love for the best price Callaway RAZR Fit Driver and the fact that from address these two drivers look very similar… but nonetheless – I’m a fan. The club sets up well – slightly open at address, and to me, a naturally drawer of the ball, this is exactly what I’m looking for. The Callaway RAZR Hawk also had a surprise in store for me. Spin levels for solid hits we’re pretty normal, if on the lower end around 3300 RPM, but off-center hits showed a significant decrease in spin, which equated to more ground roll. This feature helps contribute to the consistency this club has to offer – most hits were within a 25-yard dispersion pattern, and off-center hits only lost about 10 yards in distance, despite maintaining a solid feel. While the club face is still titanium, the rest of the club is forged composite making it lighter, allowing Callaway to make the shaft a long 46". I never thought in my dreams I would spend this much for a single club, but it has changed my game immensely. I have never been a more firm believer in the technology that goes into best price golf clubs as I am now. The workability of this driver was also great. I’ll bet the Aldila RIP had something to do with this – it’s a really solid shaft. I felt in control at address, and knew how the club would perform when trying to work the ball to the right or left. I will admit that this driver did great things for ball spin – especially for off-center hits. I think Callaway has a good thing going with the RAZR Hawk and will be watching this one closely has the new season unfolds. I would recommend buying one only if you really need a new driver or a major upgrade to the one you have now.
