Everybody's web pages cannot be listed at #1 on the search engine results pages (SERPS) as they seem to promise; in fact not even on Page #1 - the top 10 ranked pages! How many such offers have you read that promise you a #1 listing? Sure they can, for a search phase such as "How my Old Granny got to Number One with Her Black Pudding Recipe." Or "How Article Marketing Will Make you Zillions of Hard Cash." Nobody will ever use these keywords in a search, but if you do, you will find that page ranked #1 - so they have done as promised! No Secret to High Rankings However, can they help to get you among the first 10 results for the keyword 'internet marketing?' Not likely! You would have no chance, and even I can't help you there! There is no secret to achieving a high ranking. Google will rank web pages according to how well they provide the information that Google's algorithms believe the person is looking for. Those who use it will tell you that article marketing, the skill of writing articles and publishing them on article directories, ezines and blogs, should be an important aspect of your internet marketing campaign. Why should we tell you that? Because it works for us, is successful in getting backlinks to our web pages, but most importantly, is successful in attracting buying customers to our web pages. Google can Detect Concepts Without Keywords Another reason we tell you that is that you might give us backlinks in return for our help, and such backlinks are also used as a ranking factor by Google. So article marketing works as a strategy to improve your ranking for the concept that Google users are trying to find. That concept could be sports goods in general or a specific brand of running shoe. It could be how to write articles specifically, or article marketing in general. The words used by the searcher will establish the criteria, and the search engine algorithms will establish the web pages that most effectively meet these criteria. Among those web pages that are listed in the top 10 might be your web page on the topic, or it might be your article on the topic. How to Write Articles: Just Write Naturally An article published by an article directory is a web page just like any other, and if somebody is seeking information, it is just as likely to offer that as a regular website page. The way to succeed with Google is to write naturally for your readers. Don't totally ignore keywords, but don't overuse them. Those trying for 2-3% keyword density are living in the past. Even 1% can be too much if you are using a long-tail keyword. In fact, forget long tails and simply write naturally, as you would if you were writing about your topic for a magazine.
