There is hardly anyone on the planet that does not like to listen to some kind of music – some like rock and roll, some pop, others R&B, some slow rock, some punk, some heavy metal, some gospel, some instrumental, others jazz, some acapella, some slow romantic music, and the list goes on. With the group Santana they have brought about quite a medley of sorts with a blend of rock and Latin American music. The point is that the music is evergreen i.e. one can listen to it anytime and that is what is called unique. Today we have many people striving to sing to make a fortune some are talentless and use their connections to get to the pinnacle of computerized tones with beats that drive frenzy! But listing to this say ten years down the line in appreciation, forget it! Carlos Santana started out the group with a mix medley of singers and musicians decades ago and the individual is still going strong. He has joined hands with many popular artists of practically every genre and is pretty much raring to go. His most famous song black magic woman still resonates in the minds of every music aficionado and is a constant at practically every pub or rock party. In fact one can consider this one of the best party rock anthems of all time. The late sixties and seventies brought Santana into focus after the Woodstock Music and Art Festival where they belted their tunes and were a roaring hit. The blues and rock tones were highly appreciated by all the fans and with a dose of jazz in the offing, it was mind blowing. However with success came a great deal of pain and drugs and a couple of members of the band moved along only to be replaced with good talent. During the seventies Santana shifted focus to spirituality and the style was a changing. Personality clashes with his guru came to a head and both he and his wife ended the alliance. Come the 80’s he performed with well known artists like Prince and participated in the Live Aid concert with Bob Geldof. He came up with a solo record called Blues for Salvador which won him a Grammy. In 1990 Santana ended his deal with Columbia Records and switched over to Polygram. The 90’s success was not as immense as the earlier years, but he enjoyed acclaim nevertheless. The late 90’s he was back in the game with collaborations with Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill, Cee Lo Green, Eric Clapton, Dave Mathews, Everlast, and many others with the album Supernatural. The dawn of the 21st century brought him acclaim with a Grammy for Supernatural and in 2002 Santana brought out the album Shaman. Here he performed with Chad Kroegar, Michelle Branch and won the best collaboration album – a Grammy! In 2005 he was awarded a BMI icon which is one of the highest honors for any artist. He is still making music in the 21st century and doesn’t cease to amaze the vast fan following and has a chain of restaurants called Maria Maria in the USA.
