While reading her book before she fell asleep last night, the electricity went out in Carrie's living room. Thinking nothing of it, she went to get a new light bulb and screwed it in, thinking that this would solve the problem. To her dismay, nothing happened, so she tried one more new light bulb, to make sure that the previous one was not a dud. When that failed to work as well, she decided that it was much too late to be fiddling with her fuse box or to deal with it any further, and turned in for the night. The next day, after checking to see that none of her fuses were tripped and coming up with no other ideas, she called in an electrician. It was the first time Carrie needed someone to come to her house to fix a problem. She was not sure what the typical protocol was, but she would just have to work through it. Gary the electrician showed up promptly at five o'clock and got to work diagnosing Carrie's problem. Gary thought there was a wire that had gone bad and needed to be replaced. This seemed like a daunting task to Carrie, but Gary assured her it was relatively routine. Carrie liked the way that Gary spoke, he was confident with a cool and laid-back manner. She also thought he was really funny and found herself talking to him the entire time he was working. Suddenly, the light bulb started to work again and, for a moment, Carrie was disappointed. She had not even realized that Gary was close to finishing, much less done with the job. They chatted a bit more as he packed up and got ready to leave. As he was letting himself out the front door he turned and asked Carrie if she would like to get dinner the following night. She gladly accepted the invitation. Once again, Gary showed up on time to pick her up and they went out to a casual dining spot for a good meal. They had a lot of laughs and seemed to have very similar interests. Their personalities complimented each other well, and Carrie was having a great time. They decided to go for an evening stroll after dinner. Neither wanted the night to end, but neither were not sure what to do to keep it going either. As they were walking back to Gary's car an hour later, Carrie could not help but feel content. She was fairly certain there would be more outings in the future, but even if there wasn't, she had a great night. And it was all because she had needed an electrician at her house.
