Lightning is a natural phenomena generated by storms. Lightning can strike anywhere on earth. It can damage structures that made of most materials such as buildings that made by wood, concrete and even steel. It is part of a lightning protection system. No lightning protection system can guarantee absolute safety from lightning but by using this you always have the choice to divert this. lightning rods on buildings are such a system that is made by many of such rods. These rods are usually placed at high points of buildings and structures. It is a common misconception that 1ightning rods discharge clouds and thus prevent lightning. Actually lightning rods only serve to divert the 1ightning harmlessly to ground. A lightning rod is a metal rod or metallic object mounted on top of a building to protect the building from the lightning strike. If lightning hits the building instead of passing through the building it will preferentially strike the rod and be conducted to ground through the wire, and protect from fire. Lightning rods come in many different forms, but the main of all is that those lightning rods are conductive in nature. The lightning-rod system is an excellent conductor and thus allows the current to flow to ground without causing any heat damage. The lightning rod, invented by Benjamin Franklin is a metal pole mounted top of a building that draws lightning's electrical charge away from the structure. The rod has sharp points. The rod is attached to an aluminium cable or a copper cable that is connected to an underground grid which is conductive in nature. This allows the electricity to dissipate harmlessly. The purpose of a lightning rod is to divert the strike energy to a ground. The electrical charge in the lightning strike is attracted by the metal rod and through a wire. If lightning rods on buildings installed properly, a lightning rod will carry a lightning screw's electrical charge through the path of least resistance along the cable into the ground, reducing the risk of fire or damage due to heat from the lightning strike. Because of lightning tends to strike the tallest object, lightning rods must be taller than any buildings or other objects in the area. If the structure that you are attempting to protect is out in an open or flat area, you have to create a lightning protection system that uses a very tall lightning rod. You have to uses a rod which is taller than the structure in which you want to apply this system. There is a misconception that some people believe that lightning rods attract lightning. But as you can see, the purpose of the lightning rod is not to attract lightning -- it provides a safe option for the lightning strike to choose.
