Aluminium alloys are highly corrosion resistance. The strength of these alloys is reduced when alloys are subjected to temperatures of about 200 to 250°C, while the strength can be suitably increased at subzero temperatures. 2219 Aluminium alloy is an age-hardenable copper containing alloy. The alloy has the chemical composition of Aluminium 93, Copper 6.3, Manganese 0.3, Zirconium 0.18, Vanadium 0.10 and Titanium 0.06 percent. It has various of physical propertied including density which is 2.6-2.8 g/cm3/0.0939- 0.101 lb/in3, Melting point 510°C/950°F. However, with the physical properties it also has very sound mechanical like its tensile strength, yield strength, fatigue strength etc. Its has an elastic modulus of 70-80 GPa and poission's ratio 0.33 with 18% elongation. By virtue of its thermal, physical and mechanical properties 2219 aluminium alloy is proposed as best material for the construction and manufacturing of tanks for liquid cryogenic fuels like liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, in Indian launch vehicle programmes. Also to meet up with the material requirement, ISRO itself has developed the 2219 Aluminium alloy indigenously on an industrial scale. Apart from these, 2219 Aluminium alloy is also suitable for manufacturing structural components, which are used in high strength weldments and high temperature applications. Beside of 2219 Aluminium, AMS 6921 is quite a good alloy and is resistant to water and salt. Due its profound features and resistant nature, it is widely used in various of industries. For example, at a time it is being used in making sports cars, missiles and space ships whereas next it is used as reliable metal for manufacturing naval ships and many more. Also AMS 6921 is a great alloy used in aerospace industries. The specification of this alloy covers the various form of bars, forgings, and stock for forging. This material has been widely used for parts requiring higher tensile strength, it than also available in the alpha beta alloys, and corrosion resistance, but usage is not limited to such applications. In present scenario, 2219 aluminium is widely used in the aerospace industry as of its high tolerance and high melting point. This alloy of aluminium is firmly known for its strength as well as lightweight. We can obtain the alloys of aluminium in various forms such as aluminium 2219 bars, aluminium 2219 sheet and aluminium 2219 plates etc, of which aluminium 2219 bar are formed by conventional methods, in aluminium 2219 bar welding is followed by a repeated heat treatment to restore corrosion resistance. The heat treatment in bar formation is done at 1000° Fahrenheit, which is then followed by a cold water quench. Aluminium 2219 Plate are also formed by conventional method as in 2219 bar followed by cold working. But in aluminium 2219 plate tempering is not applicable. Also here resistance welding and inert gas welding is used to avoid strain cracking upon cooling. Aluminium 2219 plates are best for a filler rod. Flight Metals introduce the main applications of these alloys are found in aerospace industry as flight metals.
