Keeping Your Backsplash Clean with Natural Cleansers: - glasstileoasis

Home Improvement
glass tile backsplash . It will make your kitchen one of a kind. ">Kitchen tiles and bathroom glass tiles probably get the most cleaning of any areas in your home because they are in near constant use.

What kind of cleanser can you use on your backsplash tiles? That depends if you have glass backsplash tiles or some other material but glass tile is certainly one of the easiest to keep clean and looks great for years and years.

There are many commercial cleaning products for use in the kitchen and bathroom but if you’ve installed glass backsplash tiles, wall tiles, and even flooring tile, you probably don’t need those harsh and sometimes dangerous chemicals.

After all, the beauty of glass tile is its low maintenance, easy to keep clean quality. Why then bring chemicals into your home that may be unsafe around children and pets when you can make your own cleaner for most kitchen and bathroom cleanup?

Here are some tips and a recipe for keeping your backsplash clean with natural cleansers:

Often, you’ll only need a soft cloth dampened with some water to wipe down the backsplash. This is especially true if you are careful to keep after any splashes and don’t wait for mineral deposits to build up over time. A daily swipe with a lightly dampened cloth is usually enough to do the job. Water and a cloth is about as natural as you can get, wouldn’t you say?

Then once a week, you can do a more thorough cleaning to make sure you don’t get any soap scum build up. Soap scum is probably anyone’s biggest bathroom challenge but the trick is just to stay ahead of it and thereby preventing it. How? Daily wipe down the shower and backsplashes after use. It sounds like harder work than it actually is. You just make it a habit and pretty soon you’re doing it without even thinking about it.

Here’s a homemade natural cleanser recipe that you can make and keep in a spray bottle under the sink to keep handy:

Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water. White vinegar will not stain the grout and the vinegar smell quickly fades so you don’t have to worry about the odor. This vinegar solution and an old toothbrush are all you’ll need to clean the grout between the tiles.

If there is soap scum on the tiles, just give them a spray with the 50% water/50% vinegar solution and wait about 15 minutes. Then rinse with water and dry the tiles and they will shine like new.

For tough stains or soap scum, you can pour some of the solution in a bowl and heat it in the microwave before applying it to the surface.

Lemon juice can be added to almost any natural cleaning recipe for a fresh, clean smell. It helps to cut grease in the same way that vinegar does.

Baking soda is a great alternative to using harsh store bought scrubbing powders. It’s nice that baking soda is something most of us always have on hand.

Now you’re ready to tackle tile cleaning…naturally.
