When hiring an architect it is important that you get all of your questions answered, this is often quite a simple task however the more difficult part is to know which questions to ask in the first place. (Any company who claims that your project will be simple or without any challenges is usually hiding something from you. Challenges are to be expected and a company that embraces these challenges could be more desirable than one that tries to hide them. Honesty is the key to a successful relationship) Question four - How can you help me to fully understand the depth and processes of this project? (A good working relationship is often built on transparency and if you are unsure about anything to do with your project then chances are that you will be on the phone or e-mailing the architect every five minutes asking for answers. Because of this it is important that they help you understand exactly what is going on from the start. There is no right and wrong here as different architectural companies will have different ways to help you gain an understanding, the only thing that really matters is that the method used by the company match what you are looking for and what you are comfortable with) Question five - Can you provide me with a full breakdown of costs for this project? (Any company that is not willing to provide you with this is clearly hiding something and therefore it is a vital question to ask before proceeding with any agreement. You need to make sure before signing a contract that all of the prices are on the table and acceptable to you. There is nothing worse than unforeseen expenses when you are trying to work to strict budget that will potentially consume thousands of pounds.)
