Eccotopia plans to launch an initiative, which will educate farmers with acreage lying fallow to grow Megafolia© trees for profitable lumber use. Cape Town, South Africa - Julian Moses, Chief Executive Officer at sustainable forestation company Eccotopia, Ltd. has announced that the company plans to launch a new initiative which will educate farmers with large areas of land lying fallow to plant Megafolia© trees with a view to creating sustainable lumber forestry. Mr. Moses said, “We must teach these farmers that growing trees can be very profitable but we need to debunk the myth that all trees take years to grow and thus years before profit can be earned.” Eccotopia’s re-education program aims to demonstrate that tree farming can be very profitable provided the trees are: Easy to grow – Megafolia© trees can be planted with low up-front costs, low maintenance and harvest costs. Fast growing – In little more than 30 months, a Megafolia© tree has a cross-section of more than 12 inches and can reach of 35ft in height. Much of this height is branch-free enabling the production knot-free wood for lumber. Produce high-value products – Megafolia© trees produce a rich wood capable of being crafted into an abundance of usable items, which although of little interest to big corporate tree farmers, can quite easily earn a substantial income for small farmers who have been taught how to plant, maintain and harvest these trees. Mr. Moses said, “We are committed to the re-education of small farmers who have become far too accustomed to old-fashioned crop rotation practices that see large swathes of land lying fallow for two or more seasons. We aim to show them that this land can be used to turn a profit while the Megafolia© trees improve the quality of the soil.” About Eccotopia, Ltd.
