How to Make Hotels Feel More Like Home

Entertainment
Job-related travel is a regular part of life for many people. Such travel may seem glamorous, but it can get tedious after a while. Many people who travel often for work miss their families and wish they could simply stay at home instead of traveling from city to city. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to make job-related travel more bearable. This includes making hotels feel more like home to alleviate the pain that comes from not being able to be at home with your family.

One of the best ways to make staying in hotels during business trips more enjoyable is to bring along some personal touches from home. There is no need to overdo it and try to pack your entire house into your carry-on bag. You could bring along a couple framed photos of your family or friends, or bring a blanket or pillow that you keep on your bed at home. This may make it easier to sleep at night. You could also bring a candle or spray of your favorite scent to make the hotel room more inviting. All of these tips will make the hotel room feel less uniform and more like an extension of your house. This will help ease the transition and make being away from your home and family more bearable.

In addition to bringing along personal touches that remind you of your home and loved ones, you should also try to feel settled instead of viewing the stay as a temporary arrangement. If you have a set routine for the day, you should try to stick to it as much as possible when you're traveling and staying in hotels. This might mean waking up early to exercise, eating dinner at a certain time, or listening to music before you fall asleep. Additionally, you should always unpack your suitcase as soon as you arrive in the room. Living out of a suitcase can make you feel like you don't belong or are out of place. If your clothes are neatly hanging in the closet instead of stuffed in your luggage, you will feel more at home in the room.

Staying in hotels often means small annoyances such as loud noises from passing cars or noisy neighbors. The best way to deal with such problems is to prepare for them in advance so they do not seem like so much of a bother later on. For example, you can block out noise pollution by bring a radio, mp3 player, or white noise machine that you can play before you go to bed. If you don't like bright light and your hotel room faces the sun in the morning, you should be sure to close the curtains before you go to bed each night so that the sun doesn't wake you up.
