Students of the Month at Chautauqua Lake Central School, honoredfor March achievements, are Maria Sena, Luciana Sena, CallieGirdlestone, Abigail Jantzi, Timothy Stewart and Jonathon Wiggers.The student recognition program honors students in grades seventhrough 12 whose classroom performance, attitude toward learning,work ethic and extra-curricular activities set them apart. Senior Maria Victoria Sena is the daughter of Richard and CarolSena of Ashville. Science is Maria's favorite subject, and sheplans to attend Jamestown Community College to major inbiotechnology before transferring to a four-year school for herbachelor's degree. Maria plays clarinet in the band, sings in thechorus and chorale and has participated in the school musicals.National Honor Society, Student Administration, Peer Education,High School Bowl Academic Team, Envirothon and Spanish Club keepMaria busy. When asked what person in history she admires, Mariachose Jane Austen because she wrote novels that weren't expectedfrom women authors. She did what she loved. To be another personfor a day, Maria selected Taylor Swift because, like Taylor, Mariahas a passion for writing her own music to tell her story. English, history and band are the favorite subjects of juniorLuciana Sena, daughter of Richard and Carol Sena of Ashville. Luciparticipates in softball, soccer and YMCA indoor soccer. She playstrumpet in the band and is a cast member in the school musicals.Luci is a member of Student Administration, Peer Education,National Honor Society and Spanish Club. Outside of school, she isactive in her church as an altar server. She volunteers and enjoysspending time with friends and family. Going to college, travelingthe world and being happy and successful are Luci's plans afterhigh school. Sylvester Stallone was Luci's choice of a person sheadmires. Stallone is her favorite actor, writer and director of alltime. His Rocky movies are classics, she says, inspiring on aphysical, emotional, mental, and patriotic level. Sophomore Callie Morgan Girdlestone, who is the daughter of K'LynnMcDonnell and Jerry Nichols of Stockton-Hartfield, selected healthas her favorite subject. Callie participates in volleyball, and sheplays mellophone in the Chadwick Bay Buccaneers Drum and BugleCorps of Dunkirk. Outside of school, she enjoys reading. Calliewants to help people, so she plans to go to college to study ahealth profession, maybe athletic training. Callie said, "Thereisn't one person in history that I admire. It is the people thatserve our country and people that try to make a difference in theworld because they make peace and try to make our world a betterplace." Callie selected classmate Ashley Giddy as the person shewould like to be for a day, "because she is tough, speaks her mindand is just cool." Abigail Edith Jantzi is the daughter of Brian and Mary Jantzi ofClymer. Abbey is a freshman who enjoys science and TV productionsclasses. She participates in chorus, chorale and band. She is amember of the varsity swim team, Leo Club, Student Administration,Sources of Strength, High School Bowl Academic Team and Envirothon.Outside of school, Abbey is active in 4-H Club and serves aspresident. She is a member of FFA, the Junior Holstein Club andTeens on Fire Youth Group. Abbey enjoys horseback riding andshowing and judging dairy cattle. Future plans include collegewhere she will pursue a degree in either science or agriculture.Rosa Parks is the person in history Abbey admires because Parks"had the courage to stand up for herself." Timothy Stewart, an eighth grader, is the son of Dan and KathleenStewart of Mayville. Science, art and music are Timothy's favoritesubjects. He plays drums in the band and is a member of the BoyScouts of America Troop 126. He is an altar server at St. Mary ofLourdes Church in Mayville, and he enjoys riding his bike. Afterhigh school, Timothy would like to attend college for games design.The person he admires in history is Abraham Lincoln because hestrove for the good of our country and civil rights. When asked whohe would like to be for one day, Timothy said, "That's tough. Iguess that would be the Pope because I would like to know thepressure he has leading the Catholic Church." Seventh grader Jonathon Wiggers is the son of Dough and JacquiWiggers of Ashville. When asked what are your favorite subjects,Jon said, "Every class is my favorite." He plays football, butwould like to add basketball and track next year. He loves music,including country, some rock and rap music. Jon enjoys archery,video games and being with his friends. Long-range plans includecollege and maybe a career as a mechanic. His favorite person inhistory is John F. Kennedy because he showed how much he cared foreveryone. He liked to see and meet average people he had not seenbefore. For a day, Jon would like to be in the Army "to witness allthe men and women risking their lives for all of us." Teachers Marlea Brown and Amy Redman coordinate the Student of theMonth recognition program in the secondary school.
