A few weeks ago I was having coffee in my front yard having a pretty relaxing Sunday. A young family was going for a neighborhood stroll and one of their young children ran up to one of my Dutch Iris, pointed at it, and screamed "Wow, pretty!" Frankly, I think he could not have summed up the Dutch Iris any better. It is strikingly pretty and looks like the flower equivalent of a dragon, but has plenty of other benefits too. Dutch Iris comes in gorgeous and unique colors that you just don't find on many other plants, from brights to pastels. The Dutch Iris Apollo and Dutch Iris Hildegarde are particularly striking. These easy to plant little tear-dropped shaped bulbs are pest resistant and do best in full sun to partial shade. This makes them ideal for many areas of the garden. They flower in late winter to early spring, naturalize and return bigger and better each year. They are often found in floral bouquets and have a wonderfully long vase life. They must be planted in the fall (don't miss out, better start planting soon)! For more information about planting and growing flower bulbs and plants.
