The new discount Mizuno JPX825 irons is the longest, straightest and most forgiving iron the brand has ever created. For those of us who learned golf using the old-time forged blades, the looks of the newer vintage cavity-backed irons is a small dose of culture shock. We just don’t want to give up on the notion that what we see is really best for our games. That’s true to some extent, but to dismiss game improvement technology outright is a mistake. Case in point is Mizuno’s latest offering in the category, the JPX 825, which Mizuno bills as the “longest and most forgiving irons” the company has ever created. Suited for the mid-to-high capper, the 825 delivers exceptional ball speed and explosive distance as the face has been created with a responsive hot face utilising MAX COR technology. So when we went to the 825 line, what we wanted to do was separate those two a little bit further. Really, for the cast guy, the standard 825 was meant to focus on the things that guy’s looking for: we gave it a little more offset, a little thicker topline, and little bit larger head length from heel to toe -- and even higher COR than the discount mizuno mp69 irons. If you enjoy the feel of weight behind the ball, this iron will fit the bill. This iron offers hot distance, superb workability and tremendous forgiveness with its deep CNC milled pocket cavity featuring 17g of extreme toe-heel weighting. The increased sweet spot – 15% larger than the discount mizuno mp53 irons – feels great and aids confidence. The hot metal face no doubt contributes to this as the ball flew hot off the face even when you’re not flushing it. Beware of the flyer when playing from the rough, however, as this ball comes out powerfully from a bare lie. As a result, everyday golfers might be better served to consider another new product from the Japanese equipment maker, the Mizuno JPX-825 irons that came out this fall, as well. That’s because these are designed to be the longest, most forgiving irons in company history. There is even a forged version for the better player. These JPX 825 irons are designed to provide similar advances in distance and forgiveness as the JPX-825, but without increasing the clubhead size.
