The World Taekwondo Federation is to review the selection processthat has resulted in the world No1, Aaron Cook, being rejectedthree times for a place in Great Britain's Olympic team. GB Taekwondo's decision to put forward Lutalo Muhammad, ranked 59places below Cook, in the under 80kg division despite twice beingasked to reconsider by the British Olympic Association will now bescrutinised by the world governing body. The WTF secretary general, Jean-Marie Ayer, said: "We are extremelydisappointed by the way in which British Taekwondo's selectionprocess has been conducted and it is clear that the lack of aconclusive rationale has caused confusion. "The manner of the selection is bringing our sport into disreputeamong the UK media and major Olympic stakeholders due to aperceived lack of transparency. "Our main concern is always that every athlete is given fair andequal consideration their welfare must come first. We at the WTFhave done our utmost to bring fair practices and transparency toour sport and that is why we have committed to undertake thisreview. "People all over the world practise taekwondo because it representssport in its purest form: an individual display of skill, speed andstrength. It is essential that the WTF preserves that purity forits 201 member countries and 70 million practitioners withtransparent and decisive governance."
