Before you schedule an appointment for a facial filler, you will want to look at four things. #1 – Choose a Doctor There are lots of doctors offering facial fillers in today’s healthcare market. Facial surgery centers, dermatologists, and even general practitioners are offering the injections because they know it’s a way to make money. Before you book the injection at just any doctor, you will want to find out how much experience they have. Ask questions, learn how long they have been doing it and check out some before/after pictures. #2 – Choose a Filler Facial fillers or dermal fillers as they are commonly called, are being produced by more and more companies. As a result, you will be able to choose from Botox, Juvederm, Radiesse and several others. There are pros and cons for each and you will want to work with a doctor to help you understand which one is right for you. This will depend on where your lines are and how deep they are. #3 – Look at Side Effects The side effects of facial fillers should always be known before you attempt to have an injection. If your doctor doesn’t review the side effects with you, be sure you ask the questions. You want to make sure you know the “worst case scenario” so you don’t encounter any problems after the procedure. While your doctor is likely going to have you sign off on waivers that describe the side effects, they need to be reviewed verbally. Before you let a doctor inject you with a facial filler, you need to have a clear understanding of any and all side effects – including swelling, facial paralysis, and more. #4 – Look at Costs One thing that the commercials for facial fillers don’t tell you is that you will need more than one injection over time. Most people assume that once they get an injection of Botox or Juvederm, that’s it. Unfortunately, it’s a little more complex than that. The filler is only designed to last for about a year – sometimes more, sometimes less. This means that it will be necessary to have injections on a regular basis if you want to maintain your physical appearance. The cost of facial fillers comes out of pocket. While some places offer finance plans, insurance will not cover it because it is cosmetic. This means that you will need to consider the total costs. The costs will be what you incur for your first injection as well as the future costs in order to maintain your new appearance.
