LED Grow Lights and Their Differences

Business,Electronics,Science & Technology
A LED grow light can also be called a plant light. It is constructed of an artificial light source. It has a design that is to sustain and grow plant life with an electromagnetic spectrum. The uses of and LED device are in areas that have low or no sunlight. It is used for plant life when there is no natural sunlight the plant needs to survive. The LED light projects a quality of light that mimics that of the sun and the outdoors. The type of device that is used is based on many different factors. What the light is to be used for and the type of plant it is to be used on are some of the factors. There are a number of bulb types for a LED device. They include:

• Metal Halide Bulbs

• Spectrum Blue Lighting

• Sodium High Pressured Lighting

• Spectrum Red Lighting

Metal Halide bulbs have a little blue light in them. For this reason they are normally the lighting that is used during the first stages of growth for plant life. They are produced electrically by an electric arc. It is produced with a mixture of metal halides and mercury that is turned to vapor. The use of metal halide bulbs and lamps were established in the years of the 1960’s. They have an estimate of 75 to 100 lumens total for each watt. They also are known to contain two times the lumens as a mercury vapor bulb and around three to five times the amount of lumens in incandescent bulbs. The production of metal halide bulbs gives off a white colored light. These are also the types of bulbs that are used in the headlights of a vehicle.

Spectrum blue lighting is used for greater growth in vegetation. The lighting is the color of the sky and is mainly used after the vegetation or plant life has started to grow. It is one of the most used bulbs used in the world today.

Sodium High Pressure bulbs give off a discharge of gas. It is highly resourceful and efficient in giving off light source to help with the progression of vegetation. They have a spectrum of light that is much broader than normal lighting. They are known in comparison to mercury vapor lighting to give off much less pollution into the air. They are smaller that low pressure lighting lamps and also include mercury in their make-up. They start by giving off a dark pink glow in color. After warming sodium high pressure bulbs tend to produce one of three different colors. These are a bright white or bluish white color or a pinkish orange color. They carry about 100 lumens per watt and can carry up to 150 lumens per watt. They can be found in a range of wattage from 25 watts to 1000 watts per bulb.

Spectrum Red Lighting is a form of LED grow light that is similar in comparison to Spectrum blue lighting. This type of artificial light is used mainly for the production of flowering in plant life. Although other lighting is more proficient and better for the growth of the plant itself spectrum red lighting is used to produce the blooming of the plant life.

The sun has been the main source of sunlight for vegetation for thousands of years. With the coming of seasons the light source from the sun changes because the amount of time the sun shines changes with it. This is the emphasis of a plant life’s constant change from blooming to vegetation. With LED devices available today giving off artificial light the plant can continue in the growth stage even when natural sunlight is not available at the time. Although plant life tends to adapt many times the destruction of plant life is due to not only colder temperatures but the decrease in its light source. Today advanced forms of LED grow lights have been produced and designed to distribute the different wavelengths that are vital for plant growth. This is because it sends out the certain wavelengths that plants use the most. Because they have perfected the different colors and spectrums needed they have become the best source of artificial light for plants to use today.
