Hocknell is among those at the Carlsbad, Calif., concern who believe that the new Callaway X2 Hot driver is going to generate some excitement. One reason, he says, is its use of Callaway’s new Hyper Speed Face technology, which enables the company to add size to the clubhead without adding weight. This club also utilizes the equipment maker’s Advanced Optifit Hosel, so that golfers are able to adjust loft to help optimize launch angle, spin and lie angle to modify directional bias. A total of eight possible settings are available. The new Hyper Speed Face is the fastest, thinnest all-titanium driver face from Callaway and delivers faster ball speeds, a larger sweet spot, more forgiveness, and increased distance. Adjustable Hosel Technology allows golfers to optimize launch and shot shape by increasing loft 2° or decreasing loft by 1°. Hocknell says it is important to understand that there are many recipes for distance in a driver. And that is why Callaway is adding so many options to the X2 Hot. The standard version comes with a 460 cc head, and is available in 9-, 10.5- and 13.5-degree HT lofts as well as an Aldila Tour Blue shaft stock. A Pro model, with a 440 cc head and 8.5 degrees of loft, features a more neutral center of gravity and includes a seven-gram external weight. The stock shaft in that offering is an Aldila Tour Green.
