The roof of a property is often said to be the least considered area of the house by the home owner. Most people care more about other parts like walls, bath rooms and flooring. Roofing tends to be left ignored as we are not always able to inspect it close up. even though roofs are structured in a way which makes them durable they are not indestructible and therefore need maintenance. Roof systems are built with slopes to provide the necessary drainage and space within a home. If done incorrectly, the build up of water can leak into the roof space, eventually leading to dampness or plaster board damage. One of the most common types of roofs are flat roofs; a system which has been around for a long time and known by the name gravel or slag roof tops. The top is covered with plywood and overlaid by gravel and tar. This in turn acts as a good heat regulator, enabling a good amount of protection during the summer and winter months, with most issues occurring during the rainy weather. The lack of an angle to flat roof will can have a tenancy to make the water to leak inside. If the roof is not properly coated with waterproof sealant, there is a chance it will leak and the roof will need structural repair. Preventative measures can be put in place by using a system called roof coatings. These roof coatings are applied to concrete roof tiles prog the life of the roof. Most coatings are classified based on the binder used in them, prepared from silicone and other polymers giving the strength and elastic character making them more effective.
