Ping has always been a pioneer of top quality driving clubs. And the Ping G15 driver and g15 irons are no exception. Ping says its new G15 driver - already creating scoring history in the bag of Mark Calcavecchia, who fired a Tour-record nine successive birdies in the recent Canadian Open - has been engineered for golfers seeking maximum forgiveness as well as distance and accuracy. I was particularly taken with the 10.5 draw version of the Ping G15, which while being quite offset was so easy to hit on a nice, high ball arc. At address is sits beautifully behind the ball, although not perfectly square because there are so many options (four lofts, three draw options) that you can easily choose a model that suits your eye. Ping says the technology of the Ping G15 irons delivers a forgiving, high launch ball flight thanks to the cast stainless steel iron’s cavity design, a new tuning port and wider sole. The clubs are available from 3-9 iron, with four wedge options and four flexes in steel and graphite. The feel is unbelievably solid and the club really does power through the turf. For a player who struggles to get the ball in the air, the confidence they inspire at address will be priceless and the broody black graphics look really smart. The overall appearance is quite striking. Overall, you can hit one out of the toe or the heel or slightly fat and the consequences are not particularly dire. Yes there is some loss of distance, but the MOI is so high that wild shots left and right are greatly reduced. Cracking Ping Irons for the aspiring high-handicapper. They make the game easier.
