If you plan to do any off-road driving with your Range Rover, service on a regular basis from a reliable auto shop is a must! In addition to maintaining your vehicle through an auto shop, it's a good idea to get to know the various parts of your all-terrain vehicle that may be vulnerable to damage on your off-road adventure. Get to Know Your Vehicle Get underneath the car so you can have an accurate visual picture in your mind of where different parts are located. Pay special attention to fragile parts like the fuel tank, the gearbox, and the engine sump. You'll be less likely to snag them on off-road hazards like rocks and tree stumps. Do some research in your owner's manual. You need to learn all you can about the various features and on-bard technology that's available to assist with your off-road adventure. Enjoy a Safe Adventure If possible, always walk the route that you plan to drive before taking your vehicle over it. This applies especially to underwater areas. Take a walk through the marsh with a stick to check for loose dirt and hidden hollows. It's much better to get a little wet from a slip than for your vehicle to get stuck! Discover what's over the crest of the hill before you drive over the top. As with underwater terrain, it's better to know what's coming than find a dangerous drop off. As the driver, keep both hands on the steering wheel all the time, but don't allow your thumbs to be hooked inside the steering wheel. Bumping over rocks, roots or stumps can yank the wheel to the side. If you're not holding onto the wheel securely, your vehicle can careen out of control. Always let another person know where you're going and when you should be back. Should any trouble occur along the way, you want to know that someone's waiting for you to come home - and is ready and willing to provide you and your Range Rover service, should the need arise! Bring Your Basic Tool Kit What should you bring to ensure a safe trip in case of the unlikely event that you are stranded for a little while? Tow Rope - in case you need to be pulled from a mud pit or sandy area Shovel - in case you need to dig your way out 2-Way Radio - you can't always count on cell phone service during off-road adventures Adequate Clothing - based on the climate and terrain Correct Footwear - in case you have to hike for help GPS Navigation - you should always be able to know your location Maps - in case the GPS navigation fails Food and Water - enough to last a couple days in case you get stranded Extra Fuel - remember, there are no gas stations in the wilderness It's Time for an Adventure Once you've learned the parts of your vehicle, reviewed safe driving techniques, and collected the items you need to keep you safe on your off-road journey, it's time to take off!
