Banarasi Sarees- Aesthetics of India

Fashion & Cosmetics
The hallmarks of today’s modern era, “Banarasi Sarees”, are being popular day by day irrespective of seasons and regions.

Sarees have an indispensable appraisal universally. Particularly, Indian Sarees are the perfect attires for the women who like to wear classical varieties.

One of the finest varieties of India is Banarasi. These are known for their finely woven fabrics and opulent embroidery works.

This inspirational “Banarasi” always remains the “Indian Sun”. Today, weavers are making these Banarasi sarees as aesthetics.

Banarasi Sarees are the traditional and modern forms that are available in every part of the fashion world. Due to their unique designs and comfortable zones, they are being loved by the women of all age groups.

Varanasi is the origin of these sarees. The interesting thing is, Varanasi got the name as Banaras after producing these Banarasi sarees. Originally, this art was identified during Mughal era i.e., in 14th century. The weavers of Gujarat made these fabrics royally to gain the patronage of Mughals. Later, during 1900 BC, these fabrics were named as “Banarasi”.

Varanasi is still relying on hand weaving to make then very special and unique.

Now days, Banarasi is available in 4 different varieties i.e., Katan, Organza, Georgette and Shattir. Georgette and Katans are made with pure and natural silks where as Organza or Kora and Shattir are made with zari and silk works.

They are again divided into categories like Jangla, Tanchoi, Vaskat, Cutwork, Tissue and Butidar according to the design processes.

The weaving style of these varieties is totally unique and special. The raw materials used are pure silk, cotton, zari, gold and silver threads. Now days, crepe silk, patola cotton, super net are also in use. But they mainly come in pure silk and zari works.

3 skilled weavers will involve in weaving a Banarasi Saree. They use power looms to make the basic structure of saree. For that, they weave the warp to create the base. To tie a rope, one person will hold the form in waist and other is grounded.

Then among three, one will weave the fabric, one will dyes and other will revolve to create lacchis. After this they will start an important process i.e., designing motifs. Naksha patta, Kalka, Buti and flower, foliage, scenes of village, clouds, fairs, monkey-dances and temple and mosque designs are the major motifs of Banarasi.

Banarasi is also famous for its brocade works. Kimkhab, potthan, betta and amru are the famous brocades woven on Banarasi Sarees. Jamdhani, Jhallar, bollywood style and aishwarya works are today’s popular Banarasi works.

Banarasi silk sarees with foliage motifs and brocade works are stylish wears for grand occasions. Designer Banarasi sarees with Bollywood styles, aishwarya works are the most preferable wedding collections. Banarasi Sarees with embroidery works and grand brocade works are apt for bridal ceremonies.

Weavers made this as functional and innovative art of India. Still Banarasi is going on centuries to create a new brand internationally.
