Want to make Father's Day really special? What could be more fun than taking him to the Grand Canyon for an exciting float tour along the smooth-water section of the Colorado River? It's a fantastic way to celebrate dad's day. The waters are very calm so there are no rapids to scare dad or the kids, in fact, the waters are so mild, kids ages 4 and older can join in. Grand Canyon float tours are available at the West and South Rims of the canyon. The West Rim is just 120 miles from Las Vegas, so it is a good choice if you will be staying on the Strip. The South Rim is better if you are staying in Flagstaff or Williams in Arizona, or at Grand Canyon Village. From Las Vegas The West Rim tour comes with the added bonus of a chopper flight down to the canyon floor, something that isn't allowed at the South Rim. Then you'll take a motor coach to the base of Hoover Dam, which is a marvel of modern engineering. That is the starting point of your eleven-mile float along one of the smooth, pristine section of the Colorado River. Along the way, you'll pass through dramatic Black Canyon. Local wildlife will be all around you, and a lot of folks on float tours are lucky enough to spot bighorn sheep clinging to the canyon's cliffs. Willow Beach is the end of the line, but it's a nice spot for you and Dad to take a dip. South Rim Rafting Tours The South Rim is called the "real" Grand Canyon because it is so scenic and it is a fantastic tour for your dad. The basic tour starts with a bus ride to the Glen Canyon Dam in Page, AZ. At the base of the dam, you'll board your pontoon boat for a scenic 15-mile cruise to historic Lee's Ferry. The upgraded float tour begins with a plane flight to Page, where you'll hop into a 4x4 for a drive through Antelope Canyon's unique "slot canyons". After that, the river portion of the tour carries on as usual. The scenery here is stunning, the waters of the Colorado are a beautiful turquoise and it is accented by red sandstone. And just wait until you see the wildlife ? deer, California condors, bighorn sheep and wild burros. All-Inclusive Tours Grand Canyon rafting tours are all-inclusive, meaning they include the equipment, the services of an expert river guide, and your Park entry fees and taxes. The tours even include lunch. Personally, I'd bring plenty of sunscreen and lip balm, and I'd wear a long-sleeved cotton shirt, river sandals, sunglasses, and a hat with a brim. Don't forget your swimsuit and a change of clothes since you won't be able to resist taking a swim in the cool river water. Wrapping Up ... Father's Day is coming up fast (June 15th). All the Grand Canyon rafting trips are running on their regular schedules even on Dad's special day. It is a good idea to book your tour now because tours in the summer, especially on holidays, fill up fast. To be on the safe side, I wouldn't wait to book much past a week ahead. You'll get the lowest price on your tour when you book online. If you complete your purchase on the tour company's website, you'll get a great Internet discount!
