Father's Day will be here before you know it, the holiday is on June 15. Want to do something special for dad this year? Here is a great idea-take dad on an airplane tour of the Grand Canyon! These tours are very popular, so be sure to book your seats right away. Your dad will see some amazing sights from the air, but even better, some tours land at the canyon so you can enjoy touring on foot as well. The tours depart from two places, one is the airport near the South Rim in Tusayan, AZ, and the other is from Las Vegas. They're running on their regular schedules throughout the day. South Rim Flights Flights originating at GCN only do the South Rim, and all of them are air-only. That's okay, though, because they're a terrific experience. These tours also cover the East and North Rims. By the time your tour's over, you'll have seen almost all of the entire National Park! You'll see the Colorado River Confluence as well as Imperial Point, and Zuni Corridor. Flights from Vegas If you leave from Vegas, you can go to the West Rim or the South Rim. Air-only and landing tours are out there for both rims. The flight to the South Rim (270 miles from Sin City) takes about 60 minutes. The West Rim, being only 120 miles from Las Vegas, is only a 30-minute flight away. Air-only tours are terrific for folks who are short on time or have a limited budget-they're the cheapest Grand Canyon plane tours. These usually fly out to the West Rim and circle back, and you get to fly over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead too. Landing tours, on the other hand, give you a more in-depth canyon experience. These planes land at the Grand Canyon and then allow you three hours to tour on foot. You can visit the Skywalk, Guano Point, Eagle Point, and Hualapai Ranch. Since you're treating dad, consider taking a landing trip and adding a few upgrades. Personally, I love the package that includes an exciting chopper ride to the canyon floor. You can also take a raft ride on the smooth waters of the Colorado River. Adding a rafting tour increases the length of your overall tour to about seven hours. My other favorite add-on is VIP access to the Glass Bridge. Your dad will be standing on a glass floor 4000 feet above the canyon bottom and 70 feet beyond the edge of the rim! Another option is the Grand Canyon airplane tour that flies direct from Vegas to GCA at the South Rim. The flight takes about an hour and comes with a bus tour of the South Rim that lasts over two hours. You can add on a helicopter ride that flies over the Dragoon Corridor which is the widest and deepest part of the canyon. Wrapping Up Give your dad a special thrill on his big day. A Father's Day South or West Rim plane tour would more than fit the bill. Besides being packed with value, these tours serve up some absolutely breathtaking views. The aircraft are comfortable too with plenty of leg room and personal space. These popular tours sell out fast, so buy your seats at least one week in advance, and buy them on the tour operator's website to get the lowest price. If you buy your seats online, you qualify for the low Internet rate that can save you as much as 30 percent off regular price. Hot Author Tips: Are you ready to fly Grand Canyon?
