Factories - creating a safer overall environment

Advice,Business,Consumer
If you are in the process of opening your own factory, or you have worked in the industry and you are not sure what you are doing, then this is the article for you.

In this article, you will read about how to make the factory safe for the workers and what you might need to change, if you are already open. You might think that worker safety is not a priority, but it should be.

If a worker gets injured whilst they are at work in your factory, you are at risk of being shut down, especially if you haven't made sure that your factory meets all the health and safety requirements.

You are also at risk of having legal action taken against you. If the member of staff hurt themselves because the machines that they use were faulty and not up to scratch, then the worker can sue you for suffering. If the injury means that they cannot work again, then you could be liable to millions of pounds in damages, and among other things, this could mean the end of your career.

Therefore, it is very important that you make sure that your factory is extremely safe. If you are not sure how to do that, then read ahead for some tips on how to make sure that you meet health and safety requirements.

Line Marking

The first thing that you have to do is make sure that your warehouse is marked off. You might think that this is weird, but it is very important. This is because you have to make sure that everyone knows where they are supposed to be when the machines are operational.

For example, you could have lines marked off on the warehouse floor and they will show where non-operational stay need to stand when the machines are on, especially if the machines spit off heat splints. The lines should be measured out due to the maximum reach of the cast offs.

If you don't have the lines marked off, then a member of staff could think that they are safe and then walk up to the machine operator when the machines are on and get injured.

If you have the lines marked down, then everyone knows where they are supposed to be. There will be clear instructions and you can show that every member of staff has been trained to know what the restrictions are. Then, if they break the rules and get injured, then you are not liable.

Machines

Some factory owners will buy second hand machines to save some money when they are opening for the first time. If you take this step, then you have to make sure that the machines are working properly before workers enter the factory.

If you have done your homework regarding health and safety, then you will know that any machines have to pass stringent safety tests before they can be put to work with machinists.

This is something that brand new machines have to go through, so second hand machines will have to meet the requirements more so. This is because they are older and they have been through more. They might have spent years in operation and they will be more likely to break down.

If a machine does not pass the test, then you could be tempted to use the machine anyway, just to see you through until you have more money to buy brand new machines. Do not do this. Safety is more important than money.
