One of the key reasons that many people will choose vinyl over any other flooring type is because it is just so easy to clean. Gerflor is one of these products. The secret to keeping vinyl floor clean Gerflor and other types of vinyl are unique in that they don’t require much special effort to keep them looking top notch. That is, all they will need on a regular basis is a good brush down, and wipe up any spills which might stain. When you first install your new floor it should be left to settle in. This means that you should protect it and not carry out any cleaning for at least 24 hours. After this period it can be cleaned in the following method. Start by clearing any debris by sweeping or vacuuming the entirety of the floor. If you skip this step you can end up accidently scratching the surface when you scrub the Gerflor clean. To scrub, use a hand or machine nylon bristle brush and a cleaner in hot water. This will lift any dirt from the surface and get that surface sparkling. It will also help remove any marks which might have been made in the laying process. Next, rinse the area with clean, cold water to remove any traces of cleaner. If you don’t do this you can find the water marks will be very obvious and there might be a bit of build-up of soap suds. Then you just need to leave the vinyl to dry of. This deep clean won’t need to be done too frequently. Mostly, you’ll just need to vacuum or sweep the floor, or, on occasion spot clean spills. You’re likely to have to do this more frequently in the kitchen, where hygiene is especially important, but where there is also likely to be things dropped on occasion. If need be, you might need to carry out periodic maintenance. This will require a sweep or vacuum, then damp mop the area before scrubbing with an alkaline cleaner in hot water, using a stiff bristle brush. Make sure you rinse when you’re done. Bleach can be used for bad stains such as ink or tomato. Just add the bleach to the area and allow to act without rubbing in. Make sure you rinse thoroughly when you’re done. White spirit can be used for grease marks, as well as hair dye stains and pen marks. Keep your Gerflor looking as good as it can for as long as you can by preventing dirt being walked through where possible. It’s good practise to remove shoes on entering the home as this will help keep every floor covering looking it’s best, regardless of whether it’s textile or vinyl, tile or hard wood.
