Resumes are great way to hide everything else on your desk. There are many people seeking oil and gas jobs, with and without the experience to obtain them. As soon as you post an open position, you are going to be inundated with resumes. That you do not have any kind of applicant tracking software, you will have to review each and every resume by hand. This may take you several minutes per resume in order to put them on the "keep" pile or put them on the "toss" pile. Let's do a little math. It's not uncommon to hear about the company receiving 1000 resumes for oil and gas jobs. If it takes you three minutes to review will resume to determine whether they are qualified or not, it's going to take you 3000 minutes to get through all of the resumes. If you are working by yourself, this is going to be a total of 50 hours' worth of work - well over one week. In addition to sorting the resumes, you also have to set up preliminary interviews with all of the people who are qualified. Considering that a preliminary interview is probably going to take one to two hours per person, you will want to try and short list of that pile as much as possible so that you don't spend more than a day conducting preliminary interviews. When you have oil and gas jobs, you likely want to conduct background checks. This is to ensure that everyone is who they say they are and that they have no criminal records. By doing some background checks, you can avoid problems in the workplace. All said and done, you will likely spend 2 to 3 weeks in order to fill a single one of the oil and gas jobs that you have open. This is not something that you have time for. This is why more and more companies are turning their attention to recruitment companies. You can hire a recruitment company to find all of your oil and gas jobs for you. They specialize within the oil and gas industry and they constantly have coming in and filling out applications with them. Professional recruiters have already organized all of the resumes and weeded out those that do not belong. This means that when you call a recruitment company to help you fill a job, they likely already have five or 10 resumes that can be forwarded to you for review. You can have a temporary person placed into your business within a day or two when you work with a recruitment company. Additionally, you can have the recruitment company do a lot of the work for you - preliminary interviews, background checks, and much more. The only thing that you have to be responsible for is the final hire. This means that you may need to conduct only one or two interviews in order to decide who you want to hire and get the paperwork started.
