Whenever I practice my golf game the first place I go will be to their practice green, and there I work on my chipping game. Every time we go off to practice we ought to start with the fundamentals, and the basics of the golf swing ought to always be constructed from a solid foundation. The most primary part of the swing action can be found when we're chipping the ball. Your club face through the chip will always remain square in the path of the swing allowing you to strike your golf ball solidly. It is hard to hit the shot with any club with effectiveness if a player cannot hit a chip correctly. Every golf club in the bag is hit using the same concept: any golf club goes back to a particular point in the back swing, dependent upon the yardage a shot will be hit. The club face during contact squares to the golf ball at a downward motion, strikes the golf ball as it speeds up through it, next comes into contact with the ground right after the ball has been dispatched on its way. There are generally only a few clubs that people use during a round of golf where the shot is not hit with this motion. Because golfers strike the driver with the golf ball situated on the tee the club head arc is a little more sweeping than more descending. With the sand shot or flop golf shot we're using a somewhat more wrist action on the swing. However with all other clubs we use a pinching action on the ball to the ground and that's the most consistent method to strike the golf ball. For getting a point across regarding the game of golf I often like to draw on analogies for other sports. We sometimes can sort of turn on the light a little easier when we can relate it to a factor that is a little different. In this case if we were to use an analogy to basketball, chipping a ball would be rather like shooting a layup in basketball, and then the tee golf shot would be like shooting a 3-point golf shot. Many of the same principles with shooting a layup we will use for shooting a 3 point shot, however it's only done on a less complicated basis. Any chip golf shot is a lot like a layup with that way. It is rather simple to make this shot regularly because there is very little body movement, wrist hinge, or follow through for the golf shot. It is just a simple bring the club back and accelerate through the ball with the square face of the club. If you can do this efficiently using a chip shot, this will be the foundation for almost all the rest of your golf shots. Just build your swing to hit your shot greater distances. A lot of what makes a successful putter is mental. Therefore often if you are convinced a new stance is making your putting better, that alone gives you confidence and you putting will improve.
