In some stories, cars are far more than just props or set dressing; they are practically characters themselves. And many of the most iconic vehicular leading roles in film and TV did not roll straight out of the factory. Every good character has a backstory, and in these cases, it landed them as used cars for sale before they revved their way to the center of the screen. General Lee in "The Dukes of Hazzard" Arguably one of the most recognizable and replicated cars in pop culture, this 1969 Dodge Charger thrilled audiences with an untold number of chases, squeals, and incredible jumps, appearing in all but one episode of the show. In the 1984 episode, "Happy Birthday, General Lee," the Duke boys recall buying the General as an old heap from a junkyard to turn it into a road racer. At the time, they were blissfully ignorant of the thieves who had wrecked it before they bought it. Throughout the shows, the thieves' plan to regain the car is inevitably thwarted and the General lives to ride again. Herbie in "The Love Bug" This 1963 Volkswagen Beetle is known for being a charming little bug that literally has a mind of his own. After being shipped off by his designer who feared that a living car would be exploited for evil, Herbie is bought from a showroom by a rich socialite. Soon after, he's promptly returned on account of "mysterious" difficulties. He is then purchased by a racecar driver, Jim Douglas, for $75 and proves himself to be a winning racer under his own control. Bumblebee in "Transformers" In the 2007 movie Transformers, the loyal Bumblebee made his debut on Earth as one of the used cars for sale in the amusingly named "Bolivia's Finest Quality Used Cars and Petting Zoo." Sam Witwicky purchased him as a 1977 Camaro, but after being offended by an offhanded insult, Bumblebee takes off for a spin. Later, he comes back rejuvenated as a shiny new 2009 model Camaro. Eventually, of course, he reveals himself to be more than what meets the eye and takes his true form as an Autobot destined to help defend Earth. The Time Machine in "Back to the Future" We're not sure exactly where Dr. Emmett Brown purchased the DeLorean DMC-12 that formed the basis for his famous time machine, but by 1985, the car had already been out of production for three years. With its suspect condition and Marty McFly's marked skepticism about Doc's choice, the audience is led to believe that this car was probably not firsthand. Whatever bargain he may have found when dredging through used cars for sale, the Doc put it to good use. He developed the DeLorean into a working time machine and used it to travel across 130 years over the course of three movies. Are you in search of used cars for sale in Springfield, MA?
