KIGALI, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda on Wednesday hailed the arrest of one the key genocide suspects, currently on trial before Wichita (Kansas) in the United States, saying this is a "landmark in fight against the culture of impunity" and a clear messages to all "genocidaires who are still hiding in several western nations. " Lazare Kobagaya, 83, the accused mastermind of genocide in 1994, was arrested this week following charges of giving out false identification papers to the U. S. immigration in order to escape to a possible arrest following his part in the 1994 genocide, which left approximately 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus dead. "Arresting this key genocide suspect (by U. S. justice) whose hands are stained with the blood of thousands of innocent people is a historic and unforgettable moment," said prosecution spokesman Alain Mukuralinda Mukuralinda. Rwanda has made an extradition request to the U. S. justice, the spokesman said. The fugitive who is believed to have entered the U. S. territory in 2008 will face deportation, once convicted, judicial sources said.
