Those Dangers with Consuming Sugar for One's Brain Fitness

Food & Beverages,Health
Unhealthy news just keeps on arriving for those who love sugar in their eating habits. We are currently aware of the difficulties that sugar can bring to the levels of insulin, and with diabetic issues becoming more commonplace health issues attributable to it is also becoming more prevalent. Sugar tends to make meals taste good and people can become hooked on it, however it is something we would all do best to keep below 25 grams a day, and in many cases less if we already have insulin issues.

But now sugar has also been linked with mental health problems, particularly Alzheimer's and other dementia issues. They are becoming more and more evident in today's world and as soon as we've acquired these problems they are often a challenge to manage, much less eliminate. So what are the ways that sugar, that toxin most of us put an excessive amount of inside our body, can impact our mental health? With at least two ways in fact, and we will describe them here.

1. The brain and glucose. A few defenders of sugar have said that at the least you'll need some glucose, since that's what your brain runs on. Some industry professionals are currently under the opinion that the brain fires on glucose only due to the fact that that is all available, and as it does we're finding that it harms the brain structure and function.

The really healthy fuels for the brain are additional kinds of fuels, especially ketones, which the system makes when digesting healthy fats. In one examination of healthy seniors who did not be afflicted by any kind of dementia, increased levels of glucose had been linked to difficulty in remembering things, and the hippocampus structure of the brain was compromised. The decrease of the hippocampus is said to be a long-term precursor for Alzheimer's.

2. The liver and sugar, and just what it all means for the brain. A necessary building block for optimum brain function is cholesterol, and that is produced in our liver. The hard-working liver has many functions, and this is a necessary one, and also one of its very important functions is processing sugar. By increasing the job of processing fructose our liver has much less time to produce what the brain really needs, which is that vital cholesterol.

We know the brain offers immense adaptability, and through selecting a healthy diet, exercise regularly and opting for generally good quality lifestyle choices we can easily stay away from a lot of the issues related to growing old. Except in doing this we are pretty much by ourselves for maintaining the necessary discipline. We have an entire industry marketing sugar along with other unhealthy food, telling us that these damaging toxic substances are actually good for us.

This is an industry which pours vast amounts of money into marketing their goods (after all, they are there to make money). But more than that the industry spends a lot of money towards the science community to research their goods, then issues their findings which can be doing harm to our overall health. Of course, they're free to do this, which is why it's up to us to perform our own research and try to make our own prudent choices.

Eating a healthy diet not only means adding healthy foods to your diet such as honey, but staying away from certain types of foods.  Read more on our website http://healtheybalanceddiet.com/.   And so many of the things that give us these healthy joints are the same things that keep our liver healthy, and you can read more on our website http://liverissues.com/.  Jim O'Connell is a writer and avid health advocate now living in Chicago.
