There are countless methods of security out there, for businesses and homes alike. In fact, many of these methods do not vary whether they’re being used to secure your office or to protect your home. The differences tend to be that companies require a higher and more comprehensive array in the form of an integrated security solution which will combat a vast range of possible threats. Firstly, you would need to consider the specifics of your industry. If you’re working in the retail sector, you will benefit from security methods which protect assets such as stock and the money you keep on site. Usually this will consist of a safe, as well as ‘counter cash’ boxes which seal notes into boxes thereby preventing staff from easily swiping money from the tills. A simple log box to record safe entry can be used in combination with CCTV, key control, and no staff member being able to access the safe alone. This is usually achieved through two keys, one which opens the cash office, and a second which opens the safe, to be kept by different members of staff and to be removed from the premises overnight. Simple after-hours access control will mean that no one can access your premises without their entry being recorded. Every member of staff should be given a different code, so you can clearly identify which member of staff has entered and when. Motion detectors and alarms can form the basis of your integrated security solution and help make sure that only authorised personal can access the facility out of hours. The more complex your integrated security system, usually the more secure your facility will be, and the better capable of handling a diverse range of threats. This isn’t always necessary for every type of business though, so it is important to consider just what it is you need to keep your company running smoothly. What could be damaged or stolen? If something went missing, what methods are there to identify the culprit? Have you got a way of gathering evidence for the police? What about nonphysical problems? Have you got defence against IT problems or cyber threats? Begin by speaking to your integrated security solution provider, and discuss your needs. They will come back to you with a range of solutions, varying from the most budget option (which generally will only handle your most urgent issues), to a high end solution (which will probably deal with things you hadn’t even considered.
