It still astounds me that so many people don’t fully understand about the dangers of parabens in our cosmetics. I am constantly hearing the questions asked are parabens bad. Parabens are a highly dangerous chemical agent that has absolutely no business being put anywhere near your skin. The dangers of parabens have been well documented by science over the years. They are suspected of causing cellular changes that make our bodies more susceptible to later developing certain kinds of cancer. Scientific studies have at least to some point proven this to be true. A study conducted a couple of years ago literally found parabens inside of tumors that were extracted from female breast tissue. Are parabens bad? I think that the fact that they are known to be carcinogenic in humans might qualify parabens as chemicals that you might not want to mess with. It simply amazes me that with all of the evidence that proves the dangers of parabens that the Food and Drug Administration has not done something to force the cosmetics companies to stop putting these toxic chemicals in their products. That’s government regulation for you. The FDA never really has done much to control what the cosmetics companies put in their products. It’s not just a question of are parabens bad, because there are a lot of other ingredients in cosmetics that are equally harmful. It’s almost criminal that they are allowed to put these kinds of dangerous chemicals in their products. The dangers of parabens and other chemicals is something that sincerely needs to be addressed. Our government needs to take action in the way that the European Union did. They effectively banned the use of many of the hazardous materials that are commonly found in U.S. cosmetics products. They have gone so far as to form a group that understands the answers to the question are parabens bad. These companies are the signers of the “Compact for Safe Cosmetics”, which is an oath to the European Union to produce only cosmetics that are made with the purest natural ingredients. If these companies can produce pure, healthy, all natural products then why can’t the U.S. cosmetic companies recognize and respect the dangers of parabens and vow to do the same. It is probably for the simple reason of greed that the CEO’s of these companies will not change their way of doing things. Are parabens bad? Yes, but replacing them with all natural antibacterial and antifungal compounds such as Active New Zealand Manuka honey would not be as cost effective and so would therefore cut into the company’s profit margin. Don’t expect to see the cosmetics industry over here change anytime soon. I think that we have established the dangers of parabens, and now you understand why these toxins don’t belong in our cosmetics products. If more companies realizes that the answer to the question are parabens bad is absolutely they are, then maybe they would begin taking responsibility for their action and begin making products that were healthy to use.
