WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two teens were taken into custody after a girl was shot and seriously wounded Monday in a high school shooting in the southeastern state of North Carolina, local media reported. Catilyn Abercrombie, 15, was shot in the neck at Cape Fear High School in the city of Fayetteville during lunch time. She was sent to a nearby hospital and was in stable condition following surgery, local news outlet WRAL said. Two suspects, both students of the high school, were identified after police reviewed surveillance tapes inside the school. They were interviewed by investigators Monday night, but had not been formally charged. Cumberland County Sheriff Earl "Moose" Butler said he was confident that both students were involved and that they would definitely be charged once investigators finished interviewing them, according to the report. Butler added that they did not know why the shooting happened, saying the girl might be a "random victim." A 22-caliber rifle and a shell casing were recovered on the campus. Witnesses said they heard a pop and then saw the injured girl fall to the ground, but no one saw the shooting. Cape Fear and the neighboring Mac Williams Middle School were both temporarily locked down, with no students allowed in or out.
