It’s a new season of the epic African Adventure Show and that means new challenges for the always reliable innovative 4x4 double cab bakkies. As a 4x4 suited to Africa’s toughest terrains, it is no surprise that the African Adventure Show team chose these reliable bakkies again for their latest African adventure. In the previous show in 2012, the intrepid African Adventure Show team trekked the length of the African continent from South Africa to Egypt. The ever reliable modern 4x4 bakkies were with them for every bit of this epic 20 000 km adventure. Tough challenges are an easy assignment for the modern 4x4 bakkie, as was the case when the African Adventure Show team reached Lesotho. The 4×4s’ off-road abilities were put to the test through Lesotho’s tough mountainous routes, and these vehicles came through with flying colours. When you’re travelling through relatively uninhabited and wild terrain, you come to appreciate fuel efficiency and added comfort in a vehicle. After hours behind the wheel, the African Adventure Show team found that the interior and standard comfort features reduced driving fatigue. Added to this, the modern 4x4s’ great fuel economy means more kilometres per litre, and therefore drivers can get further on less fuel. These 4x4 bakkies stood out as the African Adventure Show team passed one border after another. From Zambia to Rwanda and Kenya to Ethiopia, there were many pot-holed and gravel roads to add to the challenge. The team refuelled after passing the Chalbi desert before heading to Sibiloi National Park in Kenya where the roads became dirt tracks. As the tracks eventually became puddles of mud, these tough 4x4 bakkies soldiered on effortlessly. After that epic journey from South Africa to Egypt, there is no refuting that these innovative 4x4 bakkies were developed to tackle some of the most challenging roads Africa has to offer. Innovative 4x4 Bakkie African Adventure In the 2014 edition of the African Adventure Show, six team members in three innovative 4x4 bakkies explored the African continent. The teams started their journey on the East Coast of Africa and travelled through Kenya, Uganda and the DRC. It took them approximately three months to arrive in Muanda on the Atlantic Ocean. This was the first expedition where the team got to experience the 132kW eight-speed automatic 4x4 bakkie with two litre bi-turbo diesel engine on their trip. With zero technical issues or flat tyres, the team travelled 11,538km in 102 days. Why the modern 4x4 Bakkie is Built for African Adventures These 4x4 bakkies can climb almost every mountain and carry your load at the same time. They have an affinity for extremes and can even handle roads with a lateral tilt of approximately 45°. They can also brave steep hills as well as deep puddles, as demonstrated when they drove effortlessly through deep ditches of thick mud in the Sibiloi National Park. The four-wheel drive system gives you great grip on the road. However treacherous the roads were during the African Adventure Show, the team could rely on their sure-footed 4x4s with huge levels of traction. In addition to the standard anti-lock braking system, the off-road ABS has been made available in these 4x4 bakkies as a standard feature for use in challenging terrains. Follow the African Adventure Show to witness how these dependable workhorses tackle some of the most challenging roads on the African continent.
