CHICAGO, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Gold futures on the COMEX Division of the New York Mercantile Exchange ended moderately higher on Tuesday, as U.S. dollar showed weakness ahead of a key U.S. Federal Reserve meeting. Silver and platinum both rallied. The most active gold contract for December delivery rose 6.3 dollars, or 0.5 percent, to finish at 1,356.9 dollars per ounce. The Dollar Index, a gauge against six major currencies turned sharply lower ahead of the Fed meeting, which is expected to announce a decision of pumping hundreds of billions of dollars into the sputtering U.S. economy. The weaker dollar lent an immediate boost to the bullion by making it less expensive for foreign investors and increasing its appeal as an alternative assets. A trader mentioned that the U.S. mid-term elections as well as the highly-expected Fed meeting have received the most attention from market participants on Tuesday amid the absence of macroeconomic news, but since the market has priced in quantitative easing by the Fed, gold failed to hold on to its early gains and pulled back from its initial highs, which proved to be a disappointment to the gold bulls. December silver jumped 28.4 cents, or 1.2 percent, to 24.836 dollars.
