How to Disable the iSight LED on a MacBook Pro If you have a MacBook Pro, you will sometimes see the green LED for the iSight, your computer's built-in camera. This light indicates that your iSight camera is turned on and in use. For example, running Photo Booth, iMovie or iChat will turn on the green light. If you want to turn off the iSight LED, you can disable it by closing all applications that access the camera or by running a script to disable the camera. Instructions Disable Applications to Disable the iSight LED 1 Close iChat, iMovie and Photo Booth. Even if you don't see the applications, they might be running in the background. To find them click the magnifying glass in the top right corner of the screen, and type "iChat," "iMovie" or "Photo Booth" in the Spotlight search field that appears. 2 Select an application from the resulting menu and click the "Quit" button to close it. Repeat the process for all applications that might use the iSight camera. 3.Type "System Preferences" in the Spotlight search field and select the System Preferences entry to open the Preferences window. Go to Accounts and select the Login Items entry. You will see all applications that are opened when you start your MacBook Pro. Deselect all applications that might access the iSight camera by clicking the small arrows. 4 Click the lock icon in the bottom left corner of the Accounts window to save the changes. Use your user name and password to confirm the save and click the "OK" button. Restart the MacBook Pro to apply the changes. Your iSight LED will no longer be turned on. Using a Script to Disable the iSight LED 5 Download iSight Disabler from MacUpdate. Click the Download Now link on the download page and save the archive on your hard disk. 6 Open the Terminal application, type "chflags nohidden ~/Library" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to run the command. This allows you to see the Library folder. 7 Extract the archive in a folder on your MacBook Pro machine. Copy the resulting isightdisabler4.scpt file to the /Users/YourUsername/Library/Scripts folder. 8 Double-click the isightdisabler4.scpt file to run the script and disable the iSight camera, along with its LED. Tips & Warnings The iSight Disabler script turns off the iSight camera, not just the LED.
