The Xiada Baicheng Beach is packed withpeople in hot summer
Officials warned citizens, tourists and swimmers to watch out for potential threats as they stroll down the beach or swim in the sea as a growing number of people is reportedly to be scratched or injured by the glass fragments, iron nails and shells recently, Xiamen Daily reported on Friday.
A doctor of Xiamen University Hospital said they have received many visitors who were scratched by glass fragments, iron nails or other sharp objects while walking on the Baicheng Beach. A lot of waste is left on the beaches by tourists and visitors who flood here in the hot summer, said a sanitation worker. The glass fragments are mostly left by people who drink beer on the beach, and the iron nails may come from construction waste that is washed ashore by tides, the worker said. The scorching summer heat also draws many people to swim in the sea but experts warned that many of the bathing beaches may not reach safety standards, and sharp shells and other objects could also pose safety threats. And they suggest swimmers go to well-maintained swimming pools to enjoy their summer swimming.
