O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree! How richly God has decked thee!? O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!? How richly God has decked thee!? Thou bidst us true and faithful be,?And trust in God unchangingly.? O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!?How richly God has decked thee! !" Hello dearests! Yes your doubts are correct, I haven’t written these magical lines nor am I going to try and take credit for this vintage Christmas song that was created to sing while carrying out the tradition of bringing the tree inside the house during Christmas season and decorating it with goodies, ever since the 19th Century. How fascinating right? Thus I thought I should share it with you all. I learnt this song on my Christmas trip to Germany as a child. I love Europe especially during Christmas. The snow, the lit up shops, hot chocolate and bells ringing at a distant church. So every year that I spend Christmas season at home every since that Germany trip, I made it a tradition to open up my white Christmas tree (my love for winter) and decorate it while singing this song. O Christmas tree! O Christmas tree! Over the years I have got a number of people hooked onto this tradition of mine. Now every year after year you will find my husband playing the piano while I sing and put up the Christmas tree along with my son, and my daughter treats us to freshly baked brownies and coffee while we carry on this tradition. It has become our way of starting the festivities each year. Each one of us is so involved in this “putting up the Christmas tree” ritual that we all go and buy little things or goodies to put up on the tree. My daughter is now an airhostess and travels very often. On her trips close to the holiday season she brings loads of goodies for our tree. We have also made it a ritual that along with the lights and decoration candies, sticks, angels, baubles and bells, we also put up things we wish for or mean a lot to us. One year if I want to travel to Paris, I make sure I put up the Eiffel tower along with a little airplane. The year my son wanted a new Cricket set he put up key chains of a bat and a ball. It helps us support each other and make a promise to ourselves to work hard, and give ourselves the best gift. The gift of making our wishes come true and thus each one of us is their own Santa Claus always!
