Hydraulic power packs have a wide variety of industrial applications. It is nothing but converting a primary driving force into the flow of hydraulic liquid filled in the tube. There are four important elements that achieve the effect: 1. The primary source of AC or DC current. Typically, it is an electric motor or an internal combustion engine. Air motors are also used in some models. A single-phase or three-phase motor or the air motor controls the pressure limits and flow by dictating the hydraulic power delivered to the fluid (oil). 2. A hydraulic pump is the heart of the system. It can be a gear type or a piston type. These pumps are selected on the basis of their capability of economic feasibility, noise production, capacity of producing flow of the liquid, and pressure ratings given by standardization authorities. The pressure generated by the pump depends on the system restriction requirements. 3. It needs a filtration pump inlet for suction, a return filter that send the fluid back to the reservoir, and a pressure filter for sending it to the pump outlet. Filtration makes sure that there is minimum wear and tear in the system. It maintains system efficiency. It filters the contaminants and prevents them from entering into the system. Pressure filters are installed on the pump outlet and they allow only filtered oil to enter into the hydraulic system. If there is any contamination within the system, then a return filter stops it from entering the reservoir again. Thus, a two-way filtration keeps it clean. Hence, filters need constant maintenance for better efficiency. 4. A reservoir (oil tank) that stores the hydraulic fluid. It is the main storage vessel for the fluid needed for operation of a motor or actuator of the hydraulic system. A good quality tank makes sure that the fluid gets the best environment. Level gauge, inspection covers, level switches, and fillers or breathers are other important parts of Hydraulic power packs. The control elements Pressure controlling valves are used for regulating hydraulic pressure in the system. Directional control valves regulate the oil flow in the internal elements like motors or actuators. Oil level protection switch, temperature protection switch, and pressure switches are other controlling elements. Filter clogging switches monitor is also important for smooth functioning of the filtration system in Hydraulic power packs.
