English, being the commonly used language worldwide, is quite important to be learned. It is a constant requirement for work. This is why, in majority of the schools, English is the medium of instruction. Nonetheless, because of the complexity of the language, many people still do not completely grasp the essentials of English, particularly in grammatical areas. Because of this, people who want to expand their mastery of the vernacular resort to formal or informal methods like hiring tutors, doing online language courses, or signing-up in English language courses in known institutions. When you study English, most of these English language courses are composed of two elements- speaking and writing; in which, both are necessary. The speaking or "oral" element oftentimes deals with having to communicate one's thoughts in a concise manner. This means shorter and direct use of words, since the listening party does not have a chance to go back to the original conversation once thoughts have been communicated. Aside from that, oral speech will involve more interjections as the pacing constantly elicits different human expressions. On the other hand, written communication takes a more formal approach. Oftentimes, one has to provide a context or an explanation before or after a direct thought has been relayed. As such, words in print are often longer. Consequently, grammar is more emphasized in written thoughts so that they may not be incorrectly construed. Considering these two elements, a good language course would usually involve goals in improving grammar with paragraph writing coherence and correcting sentence level grammar as primary examples, vocabulary enhancement, reading comprehension, and oral discussion and presentation, among others. Besides the content, in good English language courses, classes are ideally limited to 10 to 12 students, based on a research conducted by Emory College. When you study English, a smaller class size will mean that the teach or professor will have more time to focus on a particular student. However, a smaller group will also mean that there are less students to interact and practice with. One thing to remember with English language courses is that as much as a person pays for the content, he or she also pays for the experience of using and hearing the English language as communicated by different people. Conversely, a larger class size would mean less focus by the teacher but more interaction with students. More than that, a larger class size means one should pay more attention to the physical space to ensure that there is sufficient space to move, so that students can focus on learning instead of possible discomfort. Indeed, picking good English language courses is a must when you decide to study English. As such, one should consider different elements like content and space. In this light, having a better grasp of the English language would certainly help in one's education, career, and most importantly, one's life.
