Solving Your Hydraulic System Overheating Problems

Automotive
When it comes to industrial equipment and their radiators, the #1 complaint addressed for service repairs always involves a leak of some sort. The #2 complaint from a construction site and industrial engineers always involves system overheating. Are you interested in the benefits of well-built hydraulic oil coolers in Irvine, Texas? Read on to learn more about this important industrial part.

How Does It Work? A hydraulic oil cooler acts as a radiator to keep an engine cool. It does this by keeping the oil supply at a consistent, cooled temperature. This cooled oil helps keep the engine running smoothly particularly when things might otherwise have a tendency to overheat and break down. Industrial machines use oil as a coolant, and they depend on a working cooler in order to get good efficiency and performance.

Industrial engines are somewhat complex, and they depend on a series of different heat sources, combustions, and temperature regulators in order to function properly. These oil coolers are most common in heavy-duty machinery that has a more industrial-grade engine. Some other examples of machines that use oil coolers are trucks used to haul freight and large vehicles designed for off-roading. Additionally, you can also find oil coolers in some recreational vehicles (RVs) and airplanes, and they may even be found in certain motorcycle models. Race car drivers sometimes add oil coolers to sports cars to make them more efficient and to improve their fuel combustion times.

What Causes Overheating? When an inefficiency within the engine occurs, the oil inside heats up. This inefficiency is often the result of a loss of input power, which is then converted to heat. The hydraulic system's heat load is defined as PLtotal= PLpump + PLactuators + PLplumbing + PLvalves, which shows the total power amount of lost (PL) through the inefficiencies of the pump, actuators, plumbing, and valves.

If the PLtotal lost to heat is greater than the heat being dissipated, the machine's hydraulic system will inevitably overheat. Generally, cooling capacity ranges between 25-40% of the input power, depending on the hydraulic system type.

So, the question begs--how hot is too hot? Generally, fluid temperatures above 180°F accelerate degradation of the oil and damage most seal compounds. The operation of any hydraulic system where temperatures are above 180°F is discouraged. However, the fluid temperature is considered too high when the viscosity falls below the optimum value for the hydraulic system's components. These conditions can occur well below 180°F, depending on the fluid's viscosity grade.

How to Stop Overheating There are 2 ways to solve overheating problems in your industrial equipment systems: decrease heat load or increase heat dissipation. Hydraulic oil coolers greatly help decrease heat load and heat dissipation. Additionally, the use of these specific coolers greatly decreases the need for enormous oil tanks.

Because the fluid is being cooled, less fluid is needed to circulate through the engine. It is similar to a tankless water heater in the sense that the tankless heater is a smaller unit and it heats water on demand. The hydraulic oil cooler cools the oil on demand which allows for a smaller portion of oil circulating through the engine.

What Industrial Machines Benefit Most? When considering the usefulness of a oil cooler, there is certain industrial equipment where you are more likely to find these cooling wonders. They include heavy-duty equipment, generators and tractors, heavy machinery, bulldozers, skid steer loader, and earth movers, among others.

If you have a piece of large industrial equipment, please consider the benefits of Hydraulic Oil Coolers Irvine Texas. You will extend the life of your engine and equipment by having a top-notch, functioning piece of equipment as this.
