What does it take to be a successfulintern at Express? Enthusiasm isa must, along with an eye for fashion and a head for organization – qualitiesthat shone through in Hali, the PR intern we selected through a search at TeenVogue Fashion U. Now that she’s spent some time getting comfortable in her jobin our NYC Design Studio, she’s ready to share some details with other aspiringprofessionals. According to Hali, “There’s so much to do on a daily basis thatthere’s never a dull moment. While it was challenging in the beginning, I’mstarting to feel confident with my role and responsibilities. I’ve reallylearned a lot!” PullingTogether Perfect Looks “A big part of my job involves pullingclothing samples to be sent to various publications. Editors will email us withspecific pictures from our showroom or a general idea of something they needfor a shoot. We’re basically the fairy godmothers that deliver the perfectoutfit, and fast! The other day, I was super excited to travel to the EXPRESSlocation in the Flatiron district to pull items for Vogue.com. I feel like Igot to play an important part in a fashion spread.” Gettinginto the Fashion Closet “The fashion closet is super importantbecause it’s where we keep many of the samples we pull for editors. I get tospend part of every day in every girl’s dream closet. Could my job really getany better? I assist my supervisor in choosing pieces based on the trends theeditor is working on. And it’s essential that I know where everything is tolocate samples quickly. Staying organized is definitely one of the mostimportant aspects of my job.” ShowroomTime “The showroom is where we keep theproduct for the upcoming season. It’s extremely important to keep all thegarments and accessories in the showroom in pristine condition. This is wherewe take editors to preview our collections and we always want to put our bestfoot forward. Being in there is like having a secret – I always know whatstyles are coming up and it’s so fun to be an ‘insider.'” StyleDelivery “We’re always juggling multiple pressopportunities. Once samples have been prepped to go to editors, I make a recordof what goes where. On the practical side, you have to stay organized soeveryone gets what they need. (Sticky notes help me stay alive!) But it’s alsoa really fun part of the job. It’s interesting to think about where the clothesare going and what might happen before they come back. They could be worn orphotographed by some of the biggest names in the fashion industry.” KeepingUp with the Press “It’s my responsibility to flip throughmagazines and make clippings whenever our clothes are featured. It’s essentialto track and record our coverage across various websites, broadcasts andpublications. Part of this involves keeping up with the style bloggers, tocapture how they’re wearing and writing about EXPRESS on their sites and socialmedia. Our clothes inspire so many great ideas!” If you like Hali’s look, check out theshop of her favorite pieces.
