There are thousands of homeowners who love to plant trees and they believe that once a tree has been planted there is nothing else you should do it. For them, whether a tree makes it or not is simply a matter of chance. There is no doubt that a tree will not tell you what to do to it in order to improve its life; this is the reason there are tree care specialist and arborists who can give the much needed advice. Regular mulching: Providing good quality mulch going and having it spread under the base of your tree at least once a month is good for its health. Mulching protects the soil surrounding the tree from heat, wind and other factors associated with the weather. When the same mulch is broken down, it will also impart important nutrients into the soil that will eventually be consumed by the tree. Mulching also encourages microorganisms such as worms to work in the soil to improve its quality; only be careful the much doesn’t touch the tree trunk or it will start to rot. Application of fertilizer: Tree care also requires that application of good fertilizer that ensures that plant receives all the nutrients that it needs to create a strong and healthy immune system. Some good quality liquid fertilizer can be poured at the base of the tree once during spring and fall. However, you need to input of a tree care specialist to know the right kind of fertilizer for your trees so as to avoid toxicity. Loosening the soil: There is no doubt that trees require a string base under them so they can hold up straight; however, over the course of time the soil could become too compact to such an extent that it starts preventing air and water from getting to the lower levels of the soil which can be devastating for the tree. It is for this reason that arborist’s advice that you need to loosen the soil annually, especially in spring just when it is beginning to rain. You only need to learn how to do it well so that you don’t damage the roots of the tree. Get a tree inspection: Once every year, it is important to call in a tree care specialist so they can come and check on the health of your trees. Trees can easily catch different diseases or become victims of different types of pests some of which are microscopic you won’t discover them until it is too late. Having a skilled tree inspector or tree service check on your trees at least once a year will save you a lot of money in the long run and help you to maintain your trees at their best.
