FACT-1: FACTS ON NUCLEAR ARSENALS 1. In 1972, Late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto initiated Pakistan's nuclear program. 2.Through the late 1970s, Pakistan's program acquired sensitive uranium enrichment technology and expertise. The 1975 arrival of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan considerably advanced these efforts. Dr. Khan is a German-trained metallurgist who brought with him knowledge of gas centrifuge technologies that he had acquired through his position at the classified URENCO uranium enrichment plant in the Netherlands. 3. The technology was a replica brought from Netherlands by Dr. A.Q. Khan. 4. Bhutto was initially financed by Libya, which suffered misappropriation. 5. Again, it was taken over by General Zia who secured complete finances from Saudi Arabia. 6. There are accusations of transfer of nuclear technology to the financier’s archrival Iran by Pakistan. 7. The United States had put a blind eye on Pakistani nuclear developments to indirectly support Pakistan’s balance of power with India. 8. The United States policies were always tilted in favor of Pakistan including the 1971 war, and financial support of 67 billion dollars in the past 68 years to Pakistan. 9. Currently, both China and Russia support India’s permanent place at the United Nations Security Council, however the U.S. remains an impediment to Indian dreams. 10. The Army under the leadership of the current General is supportive of policies favoring Saudi Arabia. In 1999, a year after Pakistan tested two nuclear weapons; the Saudi Defense Minister, Prince Sultan visited the unsafeguarded uranium enrichment plant at Kahuta outside Islamabad -- prompting diplomatic protest. 11. Last year, Riyadh's concern at the prospect of Iranian nuclear hegemony in the Gulf grew, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Raheel Sharif, was a guest of honor when Saudi Arabia publicly paraded its Chinese CSS-2 missiles for the first time since they were delivered in the 1980s. Although now nearly obsolete, the CSS-2 missile once formed the core of China's nuclear force. Pakistan's first nuclear devices were based on a Chinese design. This clearly reflects Pakistan Army’s support to Saudi Arabia. 12. However, the civilian government through a neutral resolution of Pakistan’s National Assembly has displayed a foreign policy shift that remains baffled. This has created confusions supported by a pro Syria-Iran statement by the Pakistani Ambassador in Damascus. 13. In a situation like this, the foreign policy is a two-tier system run by two institutions opposing each other. This may isolate Pakistani civilian hierarchy from the 22 members Arab League and 57 members OIC who have expelled Syria from their forums. FACT-2 THE BLUFF ON OSAMA BIN LADEN’S PRESENCE IN PAKISTAN The statement by a former Pakistani Defense Minister, Mr. Ahmed Mukhtar to CNN-IBN was denied about the knowledge of Pakistani establishment of having OBL at a safe house in Islamabad. Most Pakistanis, Pakistani Americans, or Americans supportive of Pakistan including myself may not agree to OBL’s presence in Pakistan (to have been under a tacit approval of Pakistani establishment), however looking to the sensitive nature of the area surrounding the compound, things cannot be ruled out either. FACT-3 QUESTION-1: Pakistan received exorbitant money to grow nuclear by the Saudis. The question that remains unanswered at international forums is to identify reasons behind rising Iranian support, and declining Saudi support? Iran has not gone into a single war other a Sunni state in recent memory, and has not supported Pakistan even closer to what the Saudis did. IS THERE A REASON TO IT? QUESTION-2: Pakistan received unprecedented support from the United States since her inception, yet someone managed to double cross the U.S. in keeping OBL at a safe heaven. Most, U.S. analysts believe a two-tier system within Pakistan’s national security apparatus. Additionally, Russia and China were preferred over American interests by the current government in a number of cases. In my discussions with a retired General and a serving Brigadier, ignorance to U.S. support in the 1971 Indo Pak war was shown. Though, these facts are well documented under Nixon’s Tilt on the net retrieved through freedom of privacy act, (known as Anderson papers), yet such ignorance at the highest level shows incompetence of Pakistan’s national security, or a deliberate cover-up to established facts. WHO HAS BLINDFOLDED THOSE REALITIES FROM PUBLIC PERCEPTIONS IN PAKISTAN? CONCLUSION: To me, the identity is identical in response to both questions in fact-3. To conclude, facts 1 & 2; it reflects prolegomenon to Syrian war by Hezbollah supporters in Pakistan.
