Exercises to Keep You Healthy


 
Health

Exercise is essential to keeping a healthy body and mind. Not only does exercise release endorphins that create a better mood and more positive attitude, but it can also improve the way you learn, better your coordination, and reduce stress, depression, and anxiety. It’s a great way to keep your body healthy and strong for as long as you can. Though there are many health and wellness topics that tout being the best option for staying healthy, exercise is truly one of the best ways to keep your body running the way it was made to. Here are a few of the best ways that you can stay healthy by exercising.

Interval Training

Interval training can be done with many different exercises. If you vary the pace of any exercise, say running, your body is forced to adjust to different paces and will adjust its aerobic system to in turn burn more calories, lose more weight, and strengthen your muscles even quicker. Interval training is relatively easy, and it can even be done at home. The basic idea is to vary the intensity of your workout, instead of running at a simple pace. If you are doing 60 push-ups in a minute, try for 75 for a minute. Or if you are doing 100 crunches in 5 minutes, attempt to double the amount of crunches you can do.

Walking

It’s obvious for many that walking is a necessity for life. It gets you to places and it is enjoyable. Not only is it necessary for basic life, but it brings with it many different benefits as well, including releasing endorphins to ease stress, tension, anger, fatigue, and more; reducing the risk of glaucoma; engaging muscles; improving heart health and blood pressure; strengthening legs; and reducing the risk of osteoporosis. Walking also improves your mental health, including the improvement of memory in older adults.

Swimming

Swimming is another wonderful way to get exercise because it not only takes your whole body to swim, but it is a low-impact sport. Being low impact makes it great for those who are older and cannot risk an injury. Swimming also has the benefit of being an aerobic sport so it will benefit your heart’s health, increase your flexibility, and strengthen your muscles.

Squats

Your legs house some of the largest muscles in your body and accordingly need a lot of exercise to stay fit and trim. Squats are one of the best exercises for your legs because they can be aerobic and muscle building at the same time depending on how you perform them. With squats, however, you need to be extremely careful because you can easily hurt your lower back and legs if you aren’t in the proper position. An easy way to determine whether or not you are performing squats properly is to practice getting up from and sitting down in a chair. This ensures that you will avoid hurting your muscles. If you feel that this is too easy, use dumbbells or a barbell to up the weight you’ll need to move with your legs.

Yoga

Lastly, yoga is one of the best exercises that you can complete at any age. Yoga helps you “become more aware of your body’s posture, alignment, and patterns of movement,” according to a blog by daimanuel.com. Yoga is a great way to focus on your body and its movement and to relax and live in the moment. It releases stress and is a great way to tone muscles.

With each of these exercises, you can be sure to relieve stress and work on improving your heart health and body health. Though there are many other health and wellness topics that will improve your health, exercise is one of the most important aspects to a healthy body and mind.
