The Xtracycle Node is the first of its kind; a cargo bike that also folds up! The bike has been developed by both Xtracycle and Tern, with the Kick-starter campaign for the Node raising two and a half times the goal amount in just one month. That's quite an achievement, given that the bike won't even launch until next spring. What makes the Node so special? Besides being the world’s first ever folding cargo bike, the Node is also chock full of other features that you wouldn’t get with other bikes on the market. It is, for example, able to fold to a third of its size thanks to the OCL main joint, which allows you to fold the bike in 10 seconds or less. As well as the Leap™ rack and CarryAll™ bags that can handle the heaviest of loads, the bike is equipped with a front luggage socket, which can host an extra rack or basket. The Node also comes with several innovative safety features in addition to its storage and folding capabilities. A tyre pump is hidden in the seat post, for instance, so you will never get caught unprepared. The bike also comes with integrated super-bright lighting, which is powered by an electricity generating hub. The bike’s super-wide balloon tyres allow for a comfortable ride, even on roads that are slightly worse for wear, while a two legged Kickback™ kickstand makes for secure loading and unloading, even on the go. Due to be launched in spring 2016, the Xtracycle Node is bound to be a giant step forward in the world of bikes. More about Xtracycle and Tern Xtracycle began the cargo bike revolution about 20 or so years ago by developing a market for long-tail cargo bikes. The first models were created with the carrying of loads and the transportation of other people in mind, which had proved tricky if not impossible objectives for bike manufacturers to fulfil until then. Tern, meanwhile, is based in Taiwan, its specialties including folding bikes and cycling accessories. Although the company was only founded in 2011, it has already won international design awards.
