Flying into Sarasota, Florida, for your next trip? Well, you certainly don’t want to miss one of the city’s most visited attractions, just off the coast, on one of the many barrier islands in Sarasota Bay. Lido Key, one of the more popular of the islands, not only has some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches in the world, it also touts an elegant shopping and dining district. St. Armand’s Circle, located right off of the John Ringling Causeway, is certainly a must-stop destination and only a short hop from the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, serviced by professional limos in Siesta Key. This charming circle of more than 130 chic shops and gourmet eateries is set in a marketplace that features tropical foliage and courtyards with vintage statues beside buildings of more contemporary architectural design. Once you’re done shopping, you can head back over to the Mote Aquarium, on the mainland, where you’ll find an independent marine research institution staffed by world-class marine scientists committed to conservation and sustainable use of our oceans. However, there’s fun to be had alongside all the education. You can explore touch pools, working labs, and numerous interactive exhibits showcasing the world-recognized research of the laboratory. You can prepare brunch for their sharks, visit the sea turtles and manatees while accompanying the biologists on their morning rounds, and see more than 100 species of marine life, including their newest exhibit of sea otters in their natural habitat. The more adventurous can join their trained educators on kayak trips that explore Sarasota Bay. For those who want to relax, there’s nothing like the white sand beaches on Lido Key and Siesta Key. Lido Key has three beaches and each has its own characteristics. North Lido Beach is a good beach if you’re looking for privacy, and is located just north of St. Armands Circle. The privacy comes at a price since there’s very little parking, no lifeguards are on duty, and there are no amenities at this beach. However, the beach is kept in its natural state, with dunes that are home to nesting shorebirds. At the Lido Public Beach, you’ll find everything you expect to find at a great public beach, such as those spectacular white sand beaches, a snack pavilion with picnic tables, a playground for the kids, and more than adequate parking. It’s about a half-mile south of the circle. Finally, South Lido Park, at the very south end, has a natural Florida environment with tall pine trees and numerous hiking trails. Of course, the beach experience isn’t limited to Lido Key. Its neighbor just to the south, Fiesta Key, has a number of world-class, white sand beaches as well. Here you’ll find Siesta Key Public Beach, ranked time and again as the number one beach in the country. Four reasons have garnered it this recognition. One is its nearly 100% pure quartz crystal sand, which produces the finest and purest of white sand found anywhere in Florida, and it never gets hot, despite even the most intense summer sun. Another is the fact that the water is calm, clear, and safe for swimming and is famous for its gently sloping and shallow beach, which means you can see what’s underfoot and you won’t have to worry about big ocean waves. Additionally, being long and flat, with sand that’s packed firmly to the water's edge, there’s no better beach for taking long walks, riding your bike, jogging, or even pushing a baby stroller along its nearly three miles of white sand. Finally, it has all the amenities you could ever want: excellent lifeguards and beach patrol, full-service food and drink concession, electric taxis that serve the entire island, special beach wheelchairs for the handicapped, showers and restrooms with changing areas, volleyball nets, picnic tables, and a children's playground. These two great barrier islands offer more than you can possibly want. So, regardless of whether it’s a vacation or business trip, you’re sure to have a great time, and getting to either of these islands from the airport and back couldn’t be easier given all the professional limos in Siesta Key. So isn’t it time that you discovered that there are no barriers to fun on these barrier islands?
