Barcelona's busy cruise port terminal, located close to the centre of the city, is a hub of activity as a major European cruise port and a base for ferries to and from The Balearic Islands and other Mediterranean destinations. If you're arriving into the port on a ship or ferry and need to get to the airport, the following information will help. Most cruise and ferry companies will recommend a taxi or pre-booked Barcelona Airport shuttle service if you're connecting with an onward flight, as public transport can prove a little challenging to navigate with luggage. Although there are no direct bus or rail links from the cruise terminals, you can make the journey by public transport from the city centre - although bear in mind this will take considerably longer. Barcelona Airport Shuttle The easiest and most direct way to get from any of the port's terminals (there are nine in total, seven of which are cater to cruise vessels) is with a Barcelona Airport shuttle. Pre-booking a Barcelona Airport shuttle offers the ultimate peace of mind because once your cruise ship or ferry docks, you'll be met by a driver at a prearranged point and transferred in plenty of time for your onward flight. Established airport shuttle company Shuttle Direct offers a private 'door-to-door' service that takes around 30 minutes from pick-up to drop-off. Bus The airport express Aerobus leaves from Plaça Catalunya at the top end of Las Ramblas. While you could walk, it takes around 20-minutes along the very busy street, so the better option is to take the metro. From the pier jump on a PORTBUS (it will be T1, T2 or T3 depending on which terminal you arrive at), which will drop you off at a two minute walk from the Columbus Monument (Mirador de Colom) and the metro station Drassanes, at the bottom of Las Ramblas. Take the Green Line, L3 to Plaça Catalunya (takes around ten minutes) from where you can take the A2 Aerobus directly to either T1 or T2 terminal at the airport. Plaça Catalunya is very busy, so you'll need to look for the dedicated Aerobus stop located directly outside the El Corte Inglés department store. There will be two queues, one for each terminal, so make sure you're in the correct one! The Aerobus operates from 5.00am until 00.30am, with departures every 10-20 minutes for T2 and 5-10 minutes for T1. Fares are €5.90 one-way and €10.20 return for both adults and children over four. PORTBUS is €2 for a one-way ticket. Train Again, ensure you factor in the journey time of taking the train to make sure you're not cutting it fine for your connecting flight, as you'll have a couple of changes and possibly some waiting time for connections with this option. Firstly take a PORTBUS from the pier to the Mirador de Colom, as above. From Drassanes metro station, take the Green Line, L3 to Passeig de Gràcia, and from there you can transfer to the C2 airport train, which takes around 20 minutes. All up you should allow at least an hour for the journey. A metro and C2 ticket will cost around €5-6 combined, and the PORTBUS is €2 for a one-way ticket. With plenty of options to get from the cruise port to Barcelona Airport, the choice is yours.
